Time is flying by, ain`t it? “Legions…” was released 12 years ago but this album still holds up, no doubt about it. It seems safe to say that ARKHAM WITCH, over the years, has gotten us accustomed to the fact that their music is, if not overly innovative or original, yet it does, nonetheless, stand out.
Maybe because of very powerful vocals by John ‘J.D’ Demaine? Or is there something else you may ask?
Yes, I think there is more to it. Let me tell you what: very catchy, very massive riffs, as well as the SABBATH`ish sound (which is good and meaty), to name but a few.
Of course, BLACK SABBATH isn’t their only inspiration.
Just listen to songs like “Iron Shadows in the Moon” or “On a Horse Called Vengeance” to know that RUNNING WILD influenced ARKHAM WITCH too. And this is ok, no worries, no harm done, because this album kills.
When I listen to this album after so many years I am asking myself why this album still holds up and others don’t?
Yes, this album kicks ass because it has aged like old wine. So, on understanding that, for some unspecified reason, you have missed this album, you ought to get it, right fucking now. Oh,
I also need to mention that this 2024 reedition features three extra songs (“Hammerstorm,” “For Metal” and totally amazing “Metal Queen”) taken from their 2013 ep.
And these cuts match the original content of “Legions of the Deeper Depths” really nicely.
Wrapping up, well, even if you already have the original edition of this album in your collection, I think it is not a bad idea to get this 2024 version anyways; because these three bonus ep songs are not some fillers, that’s for sure. This is indeed ARKHAM WITCH we all love most.
