NASTY SAVAGE – Abstract Reality; LP, Metal Blade 1987

I can still remember the day when I listened to “Abstract Reality” for the first time. I was stunned, to say the least. The music seemed very rich in sounds, there was plenty “going on,” so to say and, most importantly, the songs were perfectly performed. At the time, the album was just exceptional. I still listen to “Abstract Reality” fairly often since this album does hold up really well. This album still sounds fresh, it has aged like good wine. Timeless music, no doubt. I have always complained that this LP features four songs only, but these songs are just awesome. I just get excited about this album whenever I am about to play it! Maybe that was why plenty of bands in the past respected NASTY SAVAGE, considering them one of the most important influences a typical death metal band could base their music on in those years. The reason? Well, NASTY SAVAGE`s music is very complex and technically very advanced. And their shows man….Ronnie like some beast would be thrashing around on stage, crushing TV sets against his head. And his vocals, so expressive and subtle – their range was as good as King Diamond’s. Yes, the vocals by Ronnie are simply electrifying; this fact makes NS`s music so attractive. The rhythmic section is awesome too, with plenty of very complex, very intricate parts which, paradoxically, have been played really skillfully and I daresay effortlessly. AMAZING. The Ben Meyer and David Austin guitar duo is just magical…the plethora of ideas one finds in these songs is enough to be watered down and fill a brand-new a full-length album…and I am talking about riffs/ideas we find in any single song from “Abstract Reality”!!! I kid you not. And there are four songs on this album, right? Madness, pure madness, I tell you man. Dude, how can you not adore NASTY SAVAGE? They created timeless, amazing music, very original and unique. Perfectly performed, very technical thrash metal this “Abstract Reality.” I am still thrilled every time I play this album. I darn love this kind of music and I darn love NASTY SAVAGE!!!
