DESTRUCTOR - Maximum Destruction LP Ambury Rec 1985

Well, when I first laid hands on DESTRUCTOR`s “Maximum Destruction” it was the times when the following albums were being released: DESTRUCTION “Eternal Devastation” and POSSESSED “Beyond the Gates.” These two and some other were brought by my Bulgarian friend Ernest (who had the permit to leave Poland and go to West Germany where he`d get vinyl records and bring them to Poland) …including among others, EXORCIST “Nightmare Theatre,” VECTOM “Speed Revolution” and the said DESTRUCTOR “Maximum Destruction.” I hadn’t known of the band anything, but the album`s front cover was indeed charming. One thing was sure: the band`s music had to be good! No doubt about it. So, when that guy Ernest came to my house and played this stuff for me, I knew I was going to buy it from him (and to this day, both DESTRUCTOR and EXORCIST`s albums are very important to me). Which wasn’t that easy since what he would do with any record he had at the time was to dub it for a fee to anyone interested. Anyhow, he must have dubbed enough copies because he agreed to sell that LP to me. It was really expensive and the version he sold me was a European one. There was no way to get the US one (well, after years I managed to get the first press – that made me really happy). But getting back to the album itself: after all these years, I think these songs still hold up…. This album is as powerful as it used to be. In my view, this is a really immortal piece of music. The bad thing is after this album DESTRUCTOR transformed and the transformation wasn’t too successful. They became, so to say, more heavy-metal oriented…fairly good, yet not as aggressive as the debut album is. Same happened to ANGEL DUST after their “Into the Dark Past.” The debut album was darn excellent but their next releases were not. Anyhow, it must be remembered that “Forever in Leather” was released 22 years after the debut album was recorded. A long time indeed, the very fact that affected their music, that’s for sure. I mean “Forever in Leather” is not a bad comeback-album; just not as aggressive as the debut album was. After DESTRUCTOR had reactivated, they released two more albums: “Black in Bondage” in 2016 and their forth full-length album titled “Decibel Casualties” in 2017. Alas, these albums aren’t as “lethal” as their debut Maximum Destruction was. I want to add here that thanks to High Roller Records, now you guys can enjoy this album again on vinyl, cd and tape. Unless you already have of course, you need to check DESTRUCTOR`s maximum destruction out, it`ll change your life for good!
